MP plans development forum for South-Dayi

Peki-Avetile, Jan 27, GNA - Mr Edem Asimah, Member of Parliament (MP) for South-Dayi, has hinted of plans to convene an economic forum to brainstorm on strategies for developing the constituency and the district.

Mr Asimah said this after a thanksgiving service for peaceful elections last December, at Peki-Avetile last Sunday. He said there was the need to build consensus over several issues that affected the development of the district and constituency, which was carved out from the North-Dayi district. Mr Asimah indicated that the district would have to explore its own sources of funding, both local and foreign, as a supplement to whatever would come from central government for development. He said he might be new to Parliament and politics, but he has a lot of experiences in development initiatives which he would bring to bear on the district.

Mr Asimah said he was ready to work with his political opponents to develop the district.

He urged his constituents to endeavour to interact with him, point out his mistakes and offer suggestions that would help improve the lives of the people.

Mr Asimah thanked his constituents for trusting him with their mandate and pledged that he would not misuse his position as MP. He urged the people to accept the President's nominee for District Chief Executive because all the 17 candidates short-listed for that office are competent.

Dr Kwame Ampofo, Mr Asimah's predecessor thanked the people in the constituency for their support for the eight years that he represented them in parliament. He said he could not have achieved all his goals as MP but was hopeful that Mr Asimah would build upon what was collectively achieved. Dr Ampofo therefore urged people in the constituency and district to extend their support to Mr Asimah, promising to continue to work for the development of the district in any future capacity. 27 Jan. 09
