MP expresses worry about falling standard of education in Akuapem

Adukrom Akuapem, April 17, GNA - Mr Dan Botwe, the Member of Parliament for Okere, on Friday expressed concern about the falling standard of education in the Akuapem area. He said it was unfortunate that the area, which was noted for its high educational standard could experience such a "big problem" with school children at the basic level failing their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) year after year. Mr Botwe has therefore called on all stakeholders as a matter of urgency to put their resources together to save the situation before it gets out of hand.

The MP said this when he toured all Junior High Schools (JHS) in his constituency to interact with the final year students who will be writing the BECE scheduled to start next Monday. Mr Botwe promised to make education his top priority during the campaign period and said he would put all mechanisms in place to ensure that Akuapem reclaimed its lost glory in education. He appealed to parents to consider education of their children as a very good investment and support them financially to enable them concentrate on their studies.

Mr Botwe said he would use the chunk of his common fund on education to build schools and support brilliant but needy children to acquire higher education. He appealed to traditional authorities to channel most of their resources into education which was one sure way of bringing the situation under control. Mr Botwe urged the children to study hard and put all that they had been taught by their teachers into practice and avoid examination malpractices and any act which could bring the name of Okere constituency and Akuapem into disrepute. He urged the teachers to put up their best and help the children to come out successfully in every examination since last year BECE results were not encouraging at all. Mr Botwe urged the media not to focus all their attention on politics to the detriment of other social issues which are equally important.
