MP donates to flood victims

Tongo (U/E), Oct. 4, GNA - Mr John Tia Akologu, Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for Talensi-Nabdam, on Monday presented relief items to bereaved families and over 200 farmers who lost their farms and settlements as a result of the floods in the Talensi-Nabdam Constituency.

The items which included rice, cooking oil, maize, roofing sheets and nails, lanterns, plastic buckets, millet, mats, and used clothing were presented to the Yinduri, Satenga, Pwalugu, Namualug and Shega Communities.

Presenting the items, Mr Akologu expressed government's concern about the plight of the farmers and extended his condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones during the floods. The Minister also donated rice, maize, millet, lanterns, beans, basins and buckets to five bereaved families who lost their sons during the flood.

Mr Akologu, who was accompanied by the District Chief Executive of Talensi Nabdam, Mrs Vivian Anafo, the NADMO Coordinator, Mr Patrick Akake and some Assembly members, said government was making every effort to address the perennial flood problems. He said government had secured funding to start a Pwalugu Hydro Dam project.

Mrs Anafo sympathised with all the bereaved families and said their presence was to show the love and care that government had for them. Mr Patrick Akake thanked the Minister for the donation especially for the roofing sheets as most donations that came after the floods did not include roofing sheets.

He advised members of the communities to maintain their houses especially by patching their thatched roofs to make them firmer. 04 Oct. 10
