MP donates sewing machines to five communities

Apam (C/R), May 7, GNA - Mr Joe Hackman, MP for Gomoa West, has presented 10 sewing machines to five communities in his constituency for the training of young girls in dressmaking. The machines, which went to the Apam, Gomoa Tarkwa, Gomoa Dawurampong, Gomoa Dego and Manford communities, were purchased with part of the MPs Common Fund.

Making the presentation at separates ceremonies, Mr Hackman appealed to girls in the communities to take advantage of the availability of the machines to learn sewing to improve their lifestyles.

At Apam, the MP expressed regret that loans of 2 million cedis each he solicited from the Ministry of Fisheries for some 100 women and 50 outboard motors for some fishermen in May last year had not been repaid and urged the beneficiaries to repay the money to enable others to benefit.

He said drastic measures would be taken on debtors who would refuse to repay the money after a certain period. Mr Hackman said he was constructing a 4.3 million cedis library block at Apam and a kindergarten block at Gomoa Koforidua for the use of five surrounding communities.

According to him he had set aside some funds for students who would excel in the BECE and the SSSCE to further their education and appealed to students in the District to take their studies seriously.
