MP donates incubator to La General Hospital

Accra, June 22, GNA - The La General Hospital, the only District Hospital in the Kpeshie Sub-Metro, on Friday received a state-of-art incubator with accessories valued at 65 million cedis from the Member of Parliament of Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale.

The donation, which was funded from the his share of the MP's Common Fund, was in response to an appeal made by the authorities of the hospital to help save the lives of premature babies and avoid their transportation to other major hospitals in times of emergencies. He said the hospital, whose standard was good, however, lacked certain facilities and equipment which, when provided, would help transform and improve the lives of over 150,000 patients that patronise the facility annually. The MP reiterated that health and education were the two critical sectors that needed a lot of attention in his Constituency and he would therefore not hesitate to help in that direction for the benefit of all.

Dr. Patrick Frimpong, Medical Superintendent at the Hospital, thanked the MP for responding to their appeal and urged philanthropists and organisations to emulate the MP. He said lack of space and manpower were the two main challenges facing the Hospital at present. "We have 154 beds but patients in the Hospital have quadrupled. Manpower is not enough to match the number of patients on roll. There are only nine doctors of various categories here," he said.

Earlier in the day, Nii Noamoale donated 50 million cedis to the La Mansaamo Kpee (LMK), the body responsible for the development of La Township, towards the construction of a primary school block. Ms. Gifty Odamtten, Treasurer of the LMK, who received the cheque also thanked the MP and assured him that the construction of the school block would soon commence to help reduce the pressure on school enrolment in the community.
