MP condemns shoddy work by some contractors in his constituency

Nyinahin (Ash), May 23, GNA- Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Member of Parliament for Atwima-Mponua, has blamed consultants who condone and connive with some contractors in the execution of projects as being the cause of shoddy works in the area.

He mentioned a number of projects including the Nagoli junior secondary school block and the construction of the Nyinahin-Adupri feeder road, which have not been commissioned but have started cracking and deteriorating.

The MP expressed his concern at a meeting with the Atwima-Mponua District Assembly during which it approved 695 million cedis for consultancy on project supervision and monitoring for 2007 at Nyinahin. He called on the assembly members, chiefs and opinion leaders to monitor projects being implemented in their communities and gives the assembly the feedback.

Mr Asiamah advised them to encourage the communities to initiate self-help projects so that the assembly would support it. On the impending re-denomination of the currency, the MP appealed to the National Commission for Civic Education and the assembly members to educate the people to be wary of dubious characters who may visit them as bank officials.

Mr Asiamah said by the end of 2008, 25 communities in the area would be hooked to the national electricity grid.
