Low attendance at public forum on assembly budget

Begoro, April 25, GNA - Participants at the first ever public forum of the Fanteakwa District Assembly budget hearing deplored the poor public patronage of the programme.

The forum was organized by the District Civic Union to give the assembly the opportunity to render accounts on its projects and programmes to disabuse the minds of the public that it was performing poorly.

The participants were not happy about the manner many street projects at Begoro under the urban five projects were being abandoned and urged the assembly to compel the contractors to complete the projects on schedule.

Mr John Vadi, Deputy District Coordinating Director, restricted the accounts to the internally generated income of the assembly for the year 2007.

He said income realized stood at 552,763 Ghana cedis with expenditure running into 657,353 Ghana cedis making a deficit of 104,590 Ghana cedis.

He expressed worry at the high expenditure level of the assembly as against the income level.

Mr Kwabena Adjebeng Ntori, Presiding member of the assembly, said the level of the internally generated income of the assembly was the yardstick for the allocation of the assembly's share of District Assembly Common Fund.

He appealed to the public to honour their tax obligations regularly to enable the assembly generate sufficient income to develop the district.
