Litter rubbishes jubilee clean-ups

Bawku (U/E), March 07, GNA - Clean-up exercises that preceded the Jubilee anniversary celebrations came to naught immediately the parade ended at the Bawku Secondary School Park at Bawku.

Soon after the dignitaries and the large audience had left the park, a sea of plastic waste overtook the park whilst others were flying as the wind blew.

This was as a result of the authorities' inability to provide litterbins at the park. Probably, the pupils were also not taught how to dispose off the plastics properly after using them.

To make matters worse, people littered the main streets from the park as they walked along the road whilst eating and drinking from all manner of rubbers.

Water sellers, ice cream and food vendors who took advantage of the occasion to make good sales, also failed to provide any alternative to gather the filth they had helped to create and left immediately after the parade.

Personnel from Zoomlion, a waste management team charged with the responsibility to keep the area clean, were overwhelmed with the task and disappeared.
