Mrs Theresa Afenyo Abodu, Deputy Director of Education in charge of Private Schools, has underscored the need to give children balanced education.

To this end, she said, stakeholders must endeavour to motivate teaching staff, and provide schools with basic facilities for effective teaching and learning.

Mrs Abodu made the call at the 22nd Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Most Holy Heart School at Dansoman in Accra on the theme:’Nurturing and Training the Youth for Responsible Citizenship at the Basic education Level, the Difficulties and the Way Forward.’

She said the theme sought to throw more light on Education and its associated activities that learners went through, and the way stakeholders influenced and affected the subsequent growth of the learners, their outlook and attitudes in society.

Mrs Abodu was of the view that the many challenges impeding efforts at laying sound foundation at the basic level of education were holistic, mental, moral, physical and social in nature.

On the use of the internet by the youth, the Deputy Director of Education said it posed a big threat to the youth, the future leaders, because it exposed them to the numerous social platforms which were spewing out many negative diversions and attacks on their moral fibre.

She called for mutual collaboration between teachers and parents in order to closely monitor children’s use of the internet.

Mr E J P Brown, Executive Director of the School in charge of Administration, said Management had put in place mechanisms to ensure it’s the smooth-running.

Mr William O Garbrah, the Principal, touched on discipline, and added that the children were given the opportunity to enhance their academic potentials through vocational skills in Art and Craft.

Mr Garbrah expressed joy at the school's wonderful performance in the 2013/14 Basic Education Certificate Education Examinations, and said it scored 100 per cent.

Prizes and certificates were presented to deserving students and pupils, with Master Dennis Acquah, the out-going Senior Prefect, emerging as the over-all best student.
