Appointees of the current government from Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region have been given a solid boost towards the successful discharge of their responsibilities.
Oklepeme Nuer Anorbah Sasraku II, Konor of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region and President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, has pledged the support of the chiefs and people of the area to the appointees to help them justify the confidence reposed in them by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Paramount Chief, at a news conference in Somanya on Friday, April 4, 2025, urged the appointees to approach their responsibilities with full commitment to contribute their quota to President John Dramani Mahama’s reset agenda for the country, adding that their failure to deliver on their mandate would tarnish the integrity of the Krobo people.
Speaking on behalf of the divisional chiefs, sub-divisional chiefs, queen mothers, dadematseme, and dademanyeme, he expressed the readiness of the traditional leaders to offer all necessary support to the appointees to ensure they succeed in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, leaving behind a good and lasting legacy would serve as a blueprint for appointees of future governments to follow.
“They must leave behind a legacy to serve as reference points for their successors to work from, where neither the president nor the people would have any regrets,” he told them, cautioning against pride in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The purpose of the press conference was to congratulate President John Mahama on his election as the 6th president of the Republic of Ghana and also to show the appreciation of the chiefs and people for appointing three sons and a daughter to the highest positions in his government to serve the country.
The Krobo constituencies, including Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo, and Upper Manya Krobo, have traditionally been strongholds of the NDC, with the party recording impressive figures in the recent elections.
The chiefs described this as deserving of due recognition from the government for the people.
Addressing the media, the Divisional Chief of Okper, Nene Anyeenorgu Teye Agor IX, noted, “Your landslide victory in the Yilo Krobo Constituency is a clear message from our people that places a burden of optimism and assurance on your administration to deliberately include the people of Yilo Krobo in your governance. You never turned your back on us and gave us four major appointments.”
Appointees from Yilo Krobo serving in the current government include Mr. Seth Terkper, Policy Advisor to the President; COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector General of Police; Mrs. Rita Akosua Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister; Gideon Aryeequaye, Acting Executive Secretary of Creative Arts; and Nathaniel Tetteh, Director of National Service Authority – Eastern Region.
From Lower Manya Krobo, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi has also been appointed by President Mahama as Deputy Interior Minister.
Although the area has seen some appointments in the past under various governments, the chiefs are excited about the recent number. Nene Agor asserted, “We wish to state emphatically that this is the first time in the history of our country that the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area has had four major appointments in a particular government. Your decision is unprecedented and does not only reflect the conviction and assurance your administration has in the ability and capability of our people but also fulfills your promise to have an all-inclusive governance.”
Expressing confidence in the ability of the government to deliver and give Yilo Krobo its fair share of the national cake, the chief assured the President and his government of their unprecedented support in his resetting and transformational agenda.
He expressed the appreciation of the chiefs and people for reciprocating the gesture demonstrated by the people during the general elections and assured him that his actions will go a long way to strengthen the long-standing, intimate relationship and bond shared between the two sides over the years.
