Lawmaker launches book on strategic management

Professor George Gyan-Baffour, Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency has launched a 300-page book, entitled: “Strategic Management: concepts and analysis,” with the aim to help bridge the skills gap in strategic management in businesses, institutions and agencies.

The lawmaker said proceeds from the book would be used as seed money to set up an institute, to be named: “Institute of Development Issues,” to develop and nurture strategic management ideas to proactively deal with issues confronting the nation.

He said he began writing the book in 2001 when throttled in academia and politics, adding, however, that the book was non-political and non-partisan and has universal appeal capable of solving managerial challenges across all fields of endeavour.

First deputy speaker of parliament Mr Barton Oduro, and a large number of parliamentarians, from the majority and minority sides, and ministers of state both past and present, were at the British Council to witness the launch.

Professor Gyan-Baffour said his motivation to come out with the book was borne out of the latent managerial gaps in the running of agencies, institutions and organisations that often culminate in poor projects implementation.

He said implementation of projects had being a major concern to the nation and expressed the hope that government and non-governmental organisations would apply the book to address the gap.

The book is divided into three parts with part one focusing on strategy formulation, with part two dealing with strategy implementation, monitoring, evaluation and control while the final part shows how the concepts which are chiefly applied to for-profit-organisations can be adapted to not-for-profit organizations, including government institutions.
