The late Professor Kofi Blay, father of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
He passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, after a short illness.
Professor Kofi Blay was born in Esiama in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region on March 16, 1940.
He attended St. John's School and later earned a degree in Sociology from University of Ghana.
He subsequently obtained a doctorate in Sociology from University of Wisconsin and dedicated more than four decades to academia, serving as a lecturer in the United States from 1970 to 2014.
Professor Blay was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where he served as a Youth Patron.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemond Blay, and two children: Judith Adjobah Blay and Dr Yaba Blay, a lecturer in African Studies.
Paying tribute to their father, the children described him as “a man of brilliant mind and strong conviction—full of life, full of light, and full of lessons.”
“He was gifted with a charm and a smile that drew people to him. He was deeply admired, respected, and loved. He will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” they said.
They added that many people affectionately called him Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend because of his kindness and goodwill.
The family will hold a pre-burial service and file past at the Star of the Sea Cathedral on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 7:00 a.m.
A burial service will follow at the same venue at 8:00 a.m.
After the service, his body will be transported to his hometown, Esiama, in the Ellembelle District for burial. Family members and other mourners will later return to the Takoradi Sports Club for the funeral rites.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, a thanksgiving service will be held at the Star of the Sea Cathedral in Takoradi. Final funeral rites will take place at the Takoradi Sports Club at 2:00 p.m.
Professor Kofi Blay was 86 years old.
