Lambussie Assembly confirms DCE

Lambussie (UW), April 10, GNA - Mr Yelviel-Dong Baligi, a 32-year old teacher was on Thursday confirmed as the District Chief Executive of the newly created Lambussie District. All the 20 members of the 22-member Assembly who cast their ballot, which was conducted by officials from the Jirapa District office of the Electoral Commission, voted for the President's nominee. The new district was carved out of the Jirapa/Lambussie District. In his post election speech, Mr Baligi thanked President Kufuor for creating the district and also nominating him as the District Chief Executive. He called on all citizens residing within and outside the district to cooperate and use their rich expertise, resources and wisdom to support officials that would work in the district for its accelerated development.

The newly confirmed DCE appealed to individuals and institutions as well as corporate organizations to invest in the district by providing hotel and restaurant facilities residential and office accommodation in order to promote economic activities, which would encourage workers to stay and work there. He promised to collaborate with officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to revamp the agricultural sector in the district to promote healthy lives and also reduce abject poverty among the predominantly farming population.

Mr George Hikah Benson, Upper West Regional Minister commended the Assembly for the smooth confirmation, which he noted, was an indication that they were united in their goal of ensuring that the district met its development agenda. He advised the DCE to be selfless and let all his actions reflect the vision of the President whiles at the same time behaving as a servant of the people. "Anything that will be counterproductive to the socio-economic development of the district should be avoided", he added.
