Lack of books could affect capitation grant

Beyin (W/R) Aug. 2, GNA - Miss Josephine Taylor, Headmistress of Beyin Catholic Primary School in the Nzema district has said that the lack of textbooks, could hinder the Capitation Grant for pupils. She said though pupil attendance and enrolment had increased the school feeding programme, several pupils lack textbooks and this makes teaching and learning difficult for both teachers and pupils. Ms. Taylor said these when Mr. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng paid a visit to the school as part of his tour of the Western region. She said though the assembly supported the pupils with two exercise books each, they were woefully inadequate.

At Anwia in the Nzema East district, Mr. Steven Seinzu, headmaster of Anwia District Council School said the enrolment had increased from 249 in 2005 to 368 this year.

He said the pupils were now attentive and hardly missed school. Mr. Seinzu, however, appealed to the Minister to assist them to complete their Junior Secondary School building. The Minister supervised the school feeding programme in both schools and interacted with the children.

He told parents to encourage their children to attend school in order to benefit from the feeding programme and capitation grant. Earlier at Axim, Mr Asamoah-Boateng told the assembly members that the district assemblies could pay their ex-gratia, if they were able to improve its Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

He appealed to the assembly members, district assembly staff to work as a team and improve the fortunes of the district. 02 July 06
