LDRC performs rites to unite La

Accra, May 17, GNA - As part of measures to bring a lasting peace to the La Traditional Council (LTC), the La Dadekotopon Reconciliation Committee (LDRC) on Wednesday performed the unification rites recommended by the LDRC to seal the reconciliation process, which started a few weeks ago.

The rites involved the slaughtering of a bull and pouring of libation to God, after which the beef was shared to all the Clan Heads in the traditional area.

The ceremony, which attracted the La Wulomoi and Clan Elders and citizens of the area, started around 0835 hours. It marked the end of the impasse between the La Mantse and some members of the La Traditional Council over the last 10 years.

Professor Ablade Glover, Chairman of the LDRC, said the unification rites were part of the continuation of the reconciliation process set out in the LDRC=92s final report to the LTC.

He said for the reconciliation process to be whole, some of the traditional priests would have to go through purification rites to cleanse themselves before they could even purify the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III to complete the settlement process. Prof. Glover also announced that the LTC would on May 23, 2006 hold a meeting at the Trade Fair to discuss plans to celebrate this year's Homowo festival in a peaceful manner. He said because of the conflicts, the celebration of Homowo had for the past last 10 years been held under tight Police and Military presence to forestall chaos. He called on the people in the traditional area to bury their differences and work together for the development and peaceful co-existence of all. 17 May 2006
