Kwahu West Assembly to desilt drains to avoid flooding

Nkawkaw (ER), July 22, GNA - Mr Seth Agyei-Baah, Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, said that he would support the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly to desilt drains and demolish buildings on waterways in the area, to avoid flooding.

He mentioned Abrodiem, Moara, New lorry Park, Attah ne Attah, Asuogya and Newtown areas as flood prone areas in the Municipality.

Mr. Agyei-Baah said this when he, officials of the Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organization presented 120 bags of rice, a quantity of student mattresses, mats, canned meat, blankets and other relief items to about 2,000 people who were recently displaced by floods in the area.

He advised the victims to evacuate the area and stay with friends and relatives to avoid further disasters.

Mr. Agyei-Baah said that heavy rains were yet to set in, adding that the drains could only be desilted during the dry season.

He attributed the flooding which resulted in the death of four men through electrocution to the building of structures in waterways.

Mr. Agyei-Baah advised the people to co-operate with the Assembly to ensure the success of the demolition exercise.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Obeng Somuah has appealed to the people to avoid building on waterways .
