Kwahu Chiefs inform GNA about bereavement

Nana Ameyaw Gyensiama III, Kwahu –Tafohene and Twafohene of Kwahu on Friday led an eight-member high-powered delegation of chiefs from the Kwahu Traditional Area to formally inform and invite Management and Staff of the Ghana News Agency to the funeral rites of the late Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, Kwahuhene and President of the Kwahu Traditional Council.

The delegation included Nana Somuah Mireku Nyampong III, Kwahu Asakrakahene and Apagyahene of Kwahu, Okyeame Akuoko-Boateng, Daasebre’s Kyeame, Okyeame Darko, Abetifihene Kyeame, Opanyin Daansoh-Abeam, Elder of Asakrakahene and Mr. Kwasi Adu –Ntiamoah, Executive Secretary, Kwahu Development Association.

Nana Gyensiama III, briefing the General Manager, said the funeral rites for Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II who joined his ancestors a little over a year ago would be held from December 7 to 14, 2014 at Abene-Kwahu.

He said Kwahu Traditional Council revered the GNA as the “mother” of all the other media houses, adding that “as the only wire service provider, we count on you as the most authentic and authoritative source to inform our compatriots in the Diaspora and beyond.”

“We also want to appeal to your office [GNA] to support Kwahuman to provide extensive coverage during the funeral rites” he said.

Nana Gyensiama III said according to the funeral programme, corporate bodies such as the GNA would be allowed to view Nana’s body in state on Tuesday and Wednesday December 9 and10 to pay their last respect.

He said tradition would be at its peak and appealed to all well meaning Ghanaians to support Kwahuman to bid Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, a royal and befitting farewell.

Dr. Bernard Otabil, General Manager of the GNA on behalf of the Agency expressed his heartfelt condolences to the chiefs, queens and the people of Kwahu Traditional Area on the irreplaceable loss.

He pledged the Agency’s unflinching support for Kwahuman, saying: “we would not only be there to provide coverage throughout the funeral but also fully participate in it”.

Dr. Otabil also said the GNA would broadcast and give publicity to the funeral from now till the very end, adding that “we have friends and colleagues from the area who need our support and love during this difficult period for Kwahuman”.
