Kwaebibirem District hold peoples Assembly

Kade, June 15, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), Mr. Seth Birikorang had denied that bribes are collected from prospective, beneficially in the district before being employed.

Mr. Birikorang challenged anyone who claimed to have paid bribe to make a report to the police or any appropriate authority. He was reacting to an allegation made at the district people's assembly at Kade that, he collected bribes before giving the youth employment and challenged his accuser to substantiate his allegation. The Co-ordinator said, he was prepared to face any investigation and emphatically denied either taking money from anybody or asking for immoral favours from women.

Osabarima Atwere Bediako, II, Oseawuohene and Chief of Akim Wenchi who chaired the funtion observed that portions of the roads had been awarded on contract for a number of years but hardly anything had been done and asked that immediate steps be taken to arrest the further deterioration of the roads. The Osawuohene said when the Metro Mass Transport Company put one of its buses on the road, they found it so profitable that they have increased the number to two, but wondered how long those buses could last on "such terrible roads."

The District Chief Executive Mr. Yiadom Boakye used the occasion to enumerate the number of projects which had been undertaken in the district by the government and the district assembly over the last four years especially in water supply, health and education. He said the district assembly had sponsored 200 trainee teachers and seven nursing trainees who would on completion work in the district. Mr. Yiadom Boakye said the assembly had supported 155 disabled persons financially and 33 of them were being assisted in Junior and Senior High schools. Touching on health insurance, the DCE said 125,822 were accessing the scheme. The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and MP for Kade, Mr. Ofosu Asamoah said communities in his constituency, Abodom and Nkwantanang were to have two six-classroom blocks at a total cost of 170,000 Ghana cedis. He said he was also supporting 18 apprentices in his constituency from his share of the Common Fund to acquire skills. Mr. Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, the Eastern Regional Minister assured Ghanaians that a great and bright future awaited them with the discovery of oil which revenue he promised would be honestly transparently utilized to improve the economic and social well-being of the citizens of the country. 15 June,2008
