Kumawuhene's regeneration health programme takes off

... As local polyclinic gets new theatre

A modern theatre has been established and commissioned at the Kumawu Health Centre, the 41-year-old facility which was upgraded to Poly Clinic status in April this year.
The new facility has been named Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua Theatre after the Omanhene of
Kumawu Traditionl Area, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua.
The establishment of the theater was facilitated by a donation of a GHc40,000 modern anaesthetic equipment by the Kumawumanhene last July for installation to enhance the effective operation of the new theatre at the clinic which currently operates as a district hospital.
The donation of the modern anesthetic equipment to facilitate the opening of the theatre forms part of the health regeneration programme by Barima Tweneboa Kodua, himself a Medical Superintendent of the St. Michael Catholic Hospital at Jachie-Pramso,for his people.
Long before he ascended the Kodua stool, Barima Twneboa Kodua had also donated a theatre bed to the facility to complement efforts by the District directorate of the Ghana Health Service, management and staff of the facility to ensure quality health care in the face logistical constraints.
On ascension to the Kodua Stool last year, Barima Tweneboa Kodua announced that he would evolve health initiatives that would go to improve healthcare delivery for the required development to the area.
Some of the areas to be prioritized under the chief's development agenda include education, health regeneration, water, sanitation, infrastructure development and recreation and tourism.
The District Director of Health, Mr. Justice Thomas Sevugu, on behalf of the Ghana Health Service and management of the facility thanked the Omanhene and the Kumawu Traditional Council for his selfless support to the facility leading to its upgrading to Poly Clinic status and his resolve to evolve health initiatives that would go to improve healthcare delivery for the required development to the area.

in achieving health delivery in the area.
He said following the support, inspiration and instrumentality of the chief, the patient turn out at the facility is currently over 100% with 11,000 capitated patients.
Mr. Sevugu the vision of the District Health Management Team is to create a district health model towards the upgrade into a district hospital by next year.
Dr. Seth Agyemang, the Medical Officer in charge of the Kumawu Poly Clinic indicated that with the anaesthetic equipment the facility could undertake 70% of general anaesthesia and advanced abdominal cases.
He said the facility has expanded and currently has a 30-bed capacity for the female and that management was putting up a 20 bed capacity ward from its internally General fund which is currently stalled at the lintel level for lack of funds.
Dr. Agyemang mentioned that in-patients have increased from 15 to 30 per day over the last three months when the facility was upgraded while the Out-patient department now recorded 60 attendants per day against 25 previously.
The mediacl officer mentioned that the facility which has 90 members of staff including Midwives, a theatre Nurse, two resident doctors and a Pharmacist, is currently using a 6 KVA generator which is woefully inadequate for its operations in the face of currently energy crisis and called for support for the acquisition of an automatic power plant.
Barima Tweneboa Kodua thanked the government for strengthening the human resource base of the facility and appealed for support towards the acquisition of an Ambulance and a 45 KVA generating Plant for the facility.
Barima Tweneboa Kodua, said the equipment would help with major surgical operations at the expanded health facility.
