Kukom gets ready for water project

Kukuom (B/A), July 4, GNA - Mr George Yaw Boakye, District Chief Executive for Asunafo, has said work would soon begin on 2.7 billion cedis small town water project for Kukuom, near Goaso. He was addressing a meeting of the chiefs and people of Kukuom to review their levy collection strategies to speed up mobilization of the community's counterpart funding component of 135 million cedis for the project. The District Assembly and the government are ready with their shares of the project cost.

Mr Boakye appealed to the people to accelerate their collection strategies to facilitate the take off of the project. He advised the people not to delay the project because it could be relocated to a community that was ready to cooperate with the authorities. Mr Boakye advised the people to bury their political differences and unite to attract more projects from the District Assembly and the government.

Mr Osei Bonsu, Chairman of Kukuom Area Council, said the community had so far realized 54.8 million cedis through special levies, voluntary donations and internally generated revenue. He appealed to citizens of the town to ensure that the project began on schedule. The meeting unanimously endorsed a two-week ultimatum for defaulters of the special levy to pay up or face prosecution.
