Kranka to organise funerals on a quarterly basis per year

Kranka (B/A), July 21, GNA - The people of Kranka in Nkoranza North District of Brong-Ahafo will now organise funerals on a quarterly basis or every three months.

Mr Paa Kwasi Oscar, Assembly Member for the area, told the Ghana News Agency at Kranka that the decision was unanimously taken recently at a meeting with the traditional authorities, members of the unit committees and other stakeholders to check the expensive funerals in the area.

He said before the decision was taken, performance of funerals in the communities had either been weekly, forth-nightly or monthly and this affected the economic activities of the people.

Mr Oscar said by the new regulations, funerals would be organised on a quarterly basis every year.

He explained that the new regulations however allowed bereaved families, especially Moslems, who for one reason or the other could not wait for the quarterly-basis to do so as their religion permits or after a week or two.

He said during a quarter, about two or more could be organised on a given Saturday.

In another development, Mr Oscar said the meeting also agreed to raise a special fund raising harvest towards the completion of the police station project in the area and appealed to the Nkoranza North District Assembly to provide 100 bags of cement and 10 bundles of roofing sheets to complement their efforts.

Meanwhile the youth of Kranka have appointed Opanin Yaw Tanor as their leader or 93Mmranteehene" to lead them in undertaking communal labour activities for the development of the community.
