Krachi model SHS lacks toilet facilities

Kete-Krachi (V/R), Jan. 23, GNA- Krachi Senior High School (SHS), one of the model schools in the country lacks toilet facilities. As a result, students, both boys and girls respond to nature's call in the bush.

Master Bismark Adanuti, a third year student of the School disclosed this at a Peoples Assembly organized by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) at Krachi on Tuesday. Master Adanuti appealed to the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi to intervene to change the situation, which impacted adversely on the health of the 800 strong student population and the school's environment.

He said the situation coupled with the lack of water on the campus compromised the sanitation condition of the School and was seriously affecting quality academic work. "It is true that our students defecate in the bush, we cannot hide that but it is not the best," said Mr Thomas Fordjour Ababio, Headmaster of the School.

Mr. Ababio said the students had been making do with pit-latrines, which have become unusable recently. He said the School's new dormitories and classrooms have toilet facilities but were yet to be completed by the Building Industry Constants (BIC), which was handling the project. Mr Ababio said he had made several appeals to stakeholders for assistance but to no avail. Mr Dzamesi urged the Headmaster to furnish him with reports on contractors working on various projects in the School and make sure that the BIC company finishes work on the toilet facility. Mr Dzamesi earlier mentioned the National Youth Employment Programme, National Health Insurance Scheme, the Capitation Grant and the School feeding programmes as some of government's interventions aimed at making life comfortable for Ghanaians and called on all to support the government.

Issues of concern raised by the public focused on the road networks in the District, water and sanitation, among others and appeals to government to provide another ferry on the Volta Lake and cut tree stumps in the river to make transportation on the lake safer, easier and faster.
