Kojokrom traders schooled on fire safety

The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service on Thursday organized a practical fire safety course for traders in the Kojokrom Market to prevent fire outbreaks, particularly, in the harmattan season.

The traders were taken through the processes of extinguishing fires effectively to be able to handle outbreaks.

Assistant Divisional Officer, Ebenezer Sam, said public education on fire safety seemed to be yielding some good results within the Regions as fire statistics had seen a reduction over the last three years.

He said the Command recorded 420 fires in 2012, 405 in 2013 and 262 in 2014, and described the trend as ‘encouraging’.

ADO Sam said best practices with regards to fire must be observed at all times and entreated the women to avoid leaving debris of lighted charcoal and other naked fires in the market.

The Officer also called on companies to visit the Department for fire certificates.
