Koforidua, April 23, GNA - The World Council for African Development (WOCAD) Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) is to assist the Koforidua Regional Hospital to establish an intensive care unit for seriously ill patients.

The Executive Director of the WOCAD, Dr Kwame Agyemang, announced this when he presented medical equipment and consumables estimated at 120 million cedis to the Hospital on Thursday at Koforidua. The items included chest drainage, paediatric and infant lumber tray, microscope drape, fistula needles, reconstitution device, adjustable hospital beds, wheel chairs, foam mattresses, orthopaedic set, Kangaroo pump set, face marks and others.

The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Obeng Apori, received the items, which were presented by Dr Kwame Agyemang. Dr Agyemang said his Canadian-based NGO had an affiliate in Ghana, which was engaged in relief and developmental projects, adding that the presentation was to support hospitals and medical institutions engaged in HIV/AIDS care.

He said last year, his organisation presented some medical equipment and consumables estimated at 500 million cedis to the Kyebi Government Hospital and Jumapo and Konko Health Posts.

Dr Opori thanked WOCAD for the items and assured Dr Agyemang that the hospital would keep in touch with him to inform him on the performance of some of the items presented.

He expressed the hope that other NGOs would take a cue from WOCAD to make similar donations to support the activities of the hospital. April 23, 04
