KoKMA holds maiden meet the press series

The Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has held its maiden Meet the Press Series at the main hall of the Freedom and Justice Park at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Giving the purpose of the meeting, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Bernard Mats Yingura, stated that it was to enable management team account for their stewardship in the past 9 months that the Assembly had been in existence. He explained that meeting will afford the Assembly to have an encounter with the media to brief them about achievements of the Assembly within the period of its existence, projects and programme it envisaged to do and elicit feedback and other concerns through the media to be addressed in the mutual interest of the Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive of KoKMA, Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah , took his turn and highlighted programmes and some projects undertaken from the period of his assumption of office.

He noted that although the Municipal is strategically located within the capital with the prospects of mobilising enough revenue for developmental projects, it was confronted with challenges of sanitation, street hawking and flooding owing to absence of bigger drains and choked gutters.

To confront these challenges, he explained that the Assembly was taking the necessary steps to be equipped with the requisite resources to address the problems.

To address the local economy of the youth in the Municipality, he said the Assembly has taken a modest step and started with skills development of the youth through beads-making for employment ventures.

The MCE hinted of the beautification plan of the Municipality. According to him Danquah Circle, the Liberation Circle, the Nationalism Park have all been considered to be given a total face-lift for the beautification of the Municipality.

He said the Assembly was collaborating with key institutions for the beautification exercise of which proposals for Private partnerships have been received to that effect. He also outlined projects recently awarded and those yet to be awarded on contract such as land for the Municipal Office Complex, court building at Adjaben, A two-storey market stall at Tema Station in Accra and construction of market sheds in Osu and Adabraka markets respectively.

He disclosed that KoKMA is also planning for a Public Private Partnership to redevelop the Odorna Market (Pedestrian Shopping Mall) because of its capital intensive nature and said proposals had already been received and being reviewed for consideration.

He explained that the redevelopment project seeks to make the Odornaa market attractive to the hawkers to move them off the pavements and the walk paths.

On Education, he stated that 132 people have received support from the Scholarship scheme and that it cut across to serve all those who qualify irrespective of their social political and economic backgrounds.

On Internally Generated Funds (IGF), the MCE indicated that, KoKMA has performed significantly well by achieving 81.6 percent of the target for 2019 fiscal year as at October. Adding to this, the MCE disclosed that the Municipality is likely to exceed its target for 2019 fiscal year as result of cogent and pragmatic revenue mobilization strategies employed by the Assembly. Table1 shows the overall performance as well as individual revenue items performance for the stated period.



He expressed optimism that the Assembly would exceed the targeted figure in the coming year.
