KiC Foundation fetes children in Tamale

Kiddy Care (KiC) Foundation has feted and distributed used clothes to selected twins, triplets and quadruplets in the Tamale Metropolis.

KiC Foundation also used the event, which took place in Tamale over the weekend, to interact with families to identify the immediate needs of people with multiple births in the society.

Mr Clement Boateng, Director of Operations of KiC Foundation, urged the public help dispel misconceptions about twins, triplets and quadruplets and support families and parents of multiple births.

In the Tamale Metropolis and its environs, it is erroneously believed that mothers of multiple births have to beg for alms by the street to save their children from bad omens and many poor families obey this belief.

Mr Boateng said this belief was erroneous and it negatively affected the development of the children.

He said KiC Foundation, therefore, was designing a project dubbed: “Twins/Triplets Off-street Projet (TOP)”, which it would help restore the dignity of under-privileged twins, triplets and quadruplets in Tamale and its environs.

Naa Dakpema Alhassan Dawuni, a Chief of Tamale, who was represented at the event, said there is no cultural or religious belief in Tamale that required mothers of twins, triplets and quadruplets to bring their children to the streets to beg for alms.

Mr Mark Matthew Chancellor, Director of Research at the Tamale Metro Office of the National Commission for Civic Education, urged parents to disregard the advice of soothsayers and seek medical treatment for their children.

Mr Aaron Kuwornu, Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Library Board, who chaired the event, asked parents to inculcate the habit of reading amongst their children and called on children to visit the library to read useful books.

KiC Foundation is a newly established child-centered benevolent organization headquartered in Tamale with the vision of ensuring a society that respects children’s right to healthy life and total development.
