Keta MCE calls on area youth to stop the indiscipline

Keta, Sept 8, GNA - Mr Sylvester Tornyeava, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, has called on the youth of the area to stop the growing indiscipline and aimlessness among them.

He said they (the youth) could not propel themselves into any good future by living that way and that their lawlessness was attracting negative media reportage and damaging the image of the area.

Mr Tornyeava condemned their rowdiness in recent times, particularly during funerals for colleagues, excessive alcohol drinking, use of narcotic substances and the shameful exhibition of immorality.

Addressing a meeting of youth groups on Tuesday to discuss the problem, he said 93we engage in reckless driving, riding of motorbikes, taking over the streets sometimes resulting in deaths and injuries".

The hurriedly organized meeting was prompted by the stabbing to death of a young man, Selasi Hialemegbe, 24, by one Vincent Senadzu, 21, on Saturday following a quarrel at a funeral for two young men burnt to death in a domestic gas accident at Dzelukope.

He informed the youth of efforts by the government to restore Keta to its former glory, including discussions to build a sea port while ongoing oil exploration works showed signs of large deposits off-shore.

He said together with the salt available in the area, a large petro-chemical industry could be established in the area, he stated.

"This is what a disciplined youth must prepare for but there are no hopes for drunkards," Mr Tornyeava said.

Mr Jerry Agbo, Keta Municipal Youth Coordinator, briefed them on voluntarism, conflict prevention, integrity and respect contained in the new national youth policy.

Meanwhile Senadzu, a third year student of Keta Senior High School who allegedly murdered Hialemegbe was put before a Magistrate Court at Anloga on Tuesday for conspiracy to murder and murder.

He was remanded in prison custody alongside Kofi Avadewor, 27, for conspiracy and would be brought back to court on October 4.

The body of Hialemegbe, an old student of Keta Senior High School, has been transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra.
