Kaira reminds Road Minister of his promise

Kaira, Sept. 1, GNA - The people of Kaira in the South-Dayi District have appealed to the Roads and Highways Minister, Mr Joe Gidisu, to facilitate the transformation of the rough road from Todome to Toh-Kpalime into a tarred road.

They made the appeal at a durbar to mark 46 years of becoming a Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement, following the creation of the Volta Lake.

Speaking on behalf of the Community, the Reverend Stephen Gaitu, of the Bethel Deliverance Centre, reminded Mr Gidisu of the promise he made at Dzemeni, when campaigning in the 2008 Presidential run-off, that should communities in the area vote for Professor John Atta Mills to become President, that road would be fixed.

Rev. Gaitu said that road carries all the traffic from the southern, central and northern part of the Volta region, including the Republic of Togo, to the popular Dzemeni market, which has for the past 46 years been the treasure trove of the Kpando District Assembly and now the South Dayi District Assembly.

He said successive governments have acknowledged the economic viability of that road on account of the Dzemeni market but seemed to have lacked the commitment to fulfill their promises to transform it from a rough road to a tarred road.

Reverend Gaitu was hopeful that the government would not fail the people this time, especially, when by divine intervention, Mr Gidisu has become the Roads and Highways Minister.
