KNUST Publishing Studies Department honour founding father

Kumasi, April 21, GNA - The management, staff and students of the Publishing Studies Department of the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Saturday honoured its founding father, Professor Frederick Tetteh-Mate, who is on retirement. He was presented with a citation and 11 million cedis. Making the presentation Mrs Abba Brew-Hammond, a former head of the department, said the programme that was formerly called book industry became a reality through the tireless efforts of Prof Tetteh-Mate and few others.

She commended him for offering his living room as a lecture hall when there was no space for lectures, all geared towards making sure they met the requisite credit hours for graduation. Mrs Brew-Hammond said Prof Tetteh-Mate sacrificed his stipend to buy books for the smooth running of the programme when UNESCO sponsored him to visit India.

The department also honoured Reverend Dr Edem Tetteh, also a pioneering lecturer and a former head of the department. Rev Dr Tetteh thanked the university authorities for the honour done them. 21 April 07
