The Zongo Divisional Police Commander in the Ashanti Region Supt Ameyaw Adani has charged the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to be proactive.

He challenged the city authority to tabulate measures that can help decongest the market to enable fire fighters douse future fire occurrence.

He further advised KMA to dialogue with relevant stakeholders to prevent future fire outbreak in the market.

Supt Adani observed that all roads that lead to the market have been blocked by wares and kiosks.

‘First and foremost I want to state that there is the need for attitudinal change, …even look at the entrance, the way leading to the market have all been blocked by wares, kiosks’.

"Unless the KMA which is responsible for the central market take drastic measures the problem will persist, they need to sit down and plan.. and as professional as they are, they should tell us what measures can be used to decongest the market, the roofs have all been joined together so when there is fire outbreak, it spread like that, they are the city authorities they control the market, they should sit down with stakeholders to resolve this issue," he expressed worry.

Speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Prince Minkah, Supt Adani narrated "We received reports that there was fire outbreak at the 31st December market of the Central market at 3:30am, and we quickly called the information service department to call National Fire Service personnel, according to my detectives, they estimates that 100 shops were destroyed, most of the shops contain plastics that is why the fire fighters find it very tough to control the fire."
