KMA Transport Commission to check roadside parking

Kumasi, Aug. 12, GNA - The Transport Commission of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is embarking on an exercise in collaboration with the Police to check unauthorised roadside parking and the indiscriminate use of sirens.

The Commission has, therefore, appealed to drivers, especially those of articulated trucks, taxis and ''trotros'' to refrain from parking or stopping to load at unapproved places.

At a meeting in Kumasi on Monday the Commission, made up of representatives of the Police, Transport Unions and KMA Officials, appealed to drivers to observe strictly all driving regulations. The Commission deplored the rising number of transport union being formed by people who have broken away from their mother unions to avoid disciplinary actions.

It said in a bid to contain the situation the Commission had adopted the criteria set out by the Ghana National Road Transport Co-ordinating Council for the recognition of transport unions. Consequently the Commission said no transport union would be given official recognition by it and the KMA if it did not have 40 vehicles and offices in four regions.
