KCC organizes three-hour clean-up at Tafo

Kumasi, Dec 28, GNA- About 150 members of the Old Tafo branch of the Kind Clan Club (KCC), a non-governmental organization (NGO) on Friday organized a three-hour clean-up exercise at Tafo in Kumasi to help beautify the metropolis.

The exercise involved sweeping, weeding and desilting choked gutters at the Tafo Hospital, the chief's palace and the premises of the Kwamanman Rural Bank Limited.

Mr. Baba Jamal Omar- Eeps, President of the KCC told the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, that the clean-up forms part of activities to inaugurate the KCC on December 30, 2007. He said the KCC has established a micro-finance scheme and Human Development Movement (HDM) to solicit for loans for the members to enable them expand their businesses to help reduce poverty. Mr. Omar- Eeps, who is also the Secretary of the Tafo Town Council assured that the council in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) would organize periodic clean-up exercises to help improve on personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in the township. He appealed to the residents to keep their areas tidy at all times to avoid outbreak of diseases and other epidemics, Miss Comfort Suglo, Public Health Officer of the Tafo Hospital said the Ghana Health Service and the Africa Health Now, an NGO have planned to organize a day's screening of some diseases at Tafo on Saturday December 29, to help improve their health status. She mentioned some of the diseases as diabetes, hypertension, malaria, breast cancer as well as the introduction of complementary feeding samples for children, and appealed to the public to patronize the exercise.
