K.B. Asante urges youth to protect and promote Ga-Dangme heritage

By Dennis Narterh Adzigodi, Ada.

Dr. K.B Asante, President of the Ga-Dangme Council has urged Ga-Dangme
youth to do their best to promote and protect the rich Ga-Dangme heritage. He
said the sinking of the Ga-Dangme language, culture and heritage is as a result
of the doing of the Ga-Dangme people themselves.
Dr. K.B Asante gave this advice when he was reacting to questions
during the Ga-Dangme Council and Ga-Dangme Youth meeting with the Youth Groups in
Ada over the weekend at the Ada Community Centre, Ada.
He cautioned that although parents must ensure that their children
speak good English language, same should be done at home in inculcating the
habit of speaking of the correct and fluent Ga-Dangme dialect.
Dr. Asante added that the best medium of promoting one’s heritage
and culture is through the speaking of one’s language within their boundaries
and has strongly urged the Ga-Dangme people especially the youth to help
preserve the rich Ga-Dangme language.
He observed with keen interest that most Ga-Dangmes feel ashamed
of speaking their own language which has contributed to the sinking of the rich
GaDangme heritage and has urged all the youth to desist from such acts and
rather embrace the proper ways of promoting and protecting Ga-Dangme land.
Nene Sackey
Narh, Secretary to the Ga-Dangme Council in a speech delivered has also called
on all the Ga-Dangme citizenry; from the traditional leadership, ordinary Ga-Dangme
persons and Ga-Dangme persons in political offices to recognize the essence of
contributing meaningfully to the course of the Ga-Dangme.
He said the Ga-Dangme Council continues to campaign for higher
learning among Ga-Dangmes as well as advocating equitable governance and regime
policy implementation as regards the Ga-Dangme language, culture and Heritage
in the direction of avoiding socio- economic dispossession of Ga-Dangme living
everywhere in the world.
Nene Sackey Narh also promised that the GaDangme Council and the Youth council will
never reneged on advocating the judicious use of GaDangme resources to avert
any dispossessions of GaDangme rights and honour as well as issues relating to
the Ada Sea Defence Project and the Ada Songor Salt project have duly been
sought after for the settlement and to better the lot of the Dangme people.
Nii Yemofio, the GaDangme National Youth organizer
has advised the youth in all the GaDangme land to help champion the course of
the Association since they hold the key to the Development of the GaDangme
land. He paid glorious tributes to the Leading founders and President of the
GaDangme Council Dr. K.B Asante for his immense contributions towards the
success of the GaDangme movement and has called on all the youth to emulate
such acts so as they can become good replacement for such people when they are
no more.
In a closing remark the
chairman for the occasion Nene Professor Akpanglo Abbanam (III) has call on all
the GaDangme people to use their might and head to promote the GaDangme
heritage. He entreats all GaDangme citizenry to love one another and see
themselves as one people with a common destiny in championing the course of
protecting the Heritage of the GaDangme.
He said in an interview that the GaDangme council has been working
tiredly to finding a lasting solution to the recent chieftaincy disputes that
have engulfed the Ga mashie state. He further disclosed that the Council has
been able to mediate in the previous chieftaincy disputes in the region and
hopes the current dispute will soon be thing of the past.
Nene Prof. Akpanglo Abbanam (III) has therefore urged all the
GaDangme people to desist from acts especially property owing disputes that
will breed divisiveness among them but rather come together to form a
formidable bargaining power to help regain for their properties.
The council has therefore call on all the GaDangme citizenry to be
part of this years GaDangme Home coming ( GaDangme Kpe Ngua) that comes off this
