Judge Orders Journalists to Report to His Chamber

There was drama at the High Court in Denu in the Volta region on Monday when the presiding high court judge, Mr. Justice M. K. Woanya sought to single out journalists for possible reprimand and sanctions over the coverage of proceedings arising out of the protracted Anlo Awoamezi affair.

Certain aspects of the chieftaincy dispute are before the court with Mr. Justice Woanya as the presiding judge.

Earlier that day, Chronicle published the concerns raised by the Concerned Citizens of Anlo in North America that sought to question the role of the judge and the elite Panthers' Unit of the Ghana Police Force that provided security for the swearing of Francis Nyonyo Agboada as the president of the Anlo Traditional Council and a judicial committee for the council, when there was a motion against the meeting and a case pending before the Denu High Court against the holding of that event at the premises of the Keta District assembly.

The judge, apparently informed that the newspaper had published the concerns of Anlos in the Diaspora in North America, announced in open court that any journalist present must report himself in his chambers.

However not able to pinpoint Chronicle undercover reporters in the courtroom, he continued with the substantive case in which the appellants were seeking three reliefs namely that the nomination or selection of Agboada is wrongful and contrary to the custom and traditional practices of Anlo among others.
