A heavy rainstorm has left a trail of destruction in Juaboso in the Western North Region, tearing through key public offices and exposing buildings to the elements.

The storm, which struck in the evening and lasted for hours, came with strong winds that ripped off rooftops and sent sheets of metal flying across the area.

By the time it subsided, several important institutions had been badly affected, including offices of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Residents described a frightening scene as debris scattered across the community and parts of buildings were left open and vulnerable.

Despite the scale of destruction, no lives were lost.

Dennis Owusu, the Juaboso District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said he was alerted to the situation shortly after the storm began.

He explained that he quickly mobilised his team to assess the damage after receiving reports that the roofs of the affected offices had been completely blown off.

“The roofs of these offices were completely torn off. Thankfully, no one was hurt,” he said.

Owusu noted that a full assessment of the damage could not be carried out immediately, as many of the offices were closed due to the holiday. However, NADMO officials are expected to return to the site once activities resume to conduct a detailed evaluation.
