Journalists urged to resist manipulation

Ho, June 10, GNA - Mr Baba Jamal, a Deputy Minister of Information, has appealed to journalists to resist the tendency of people to manipulate and misuse them in pursuit of their personal and group interests.

"Be steadfast, stand up for the profession and professionalism," he said when he interacted with the media in Ho during a working visit to the Volta region.

"Your responsibility is to serve the nation and we expect you to offer constructive criticisms as catalysts of development and not to destroy personalities," he said.

"Keep politicians on their feet to do the right thing instead of aiming to destroy them," Mr Jamal said.

He said though the media in Ghana were doing quite well, they could do better by providing proposals and options for accelerated development instead of overly criticizing the government.

"The government wants you to grow, develop and promote development agenda.

We simply want people in the media to make strides just like our politicians and others," Mr Jamal said.

Mr Jamal said journalists hardly set and pursue the agenda of their welfare and improved working conditions as passionately as they do for others.
