Jospong Supports Melcom Victims

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zoomlion and JOSPONG GROUP of Companies, has donated an amount of forty Ghana Cedis (GH?40,000) equivalent to four hundred million old cedis (?400, 000,000) to the Melcom disaster victims during this year’s annual thanksgiving service of the twin company recently.

The donation was made on behalf of the two groups of Companies to take care of the needs of the survivors of the recent tragedy that rocked Melcom, one of Ghana’s hypermarkets, after making available heavy duty equipment to save the lives of the survivors on the day of the tragedy; a tragedy that makes the blood of many Ghanaians boil in their veins.

In his speech, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zoomlion and JOSPONG GROUP of Companies, thanked God for the lives of the survivors, adding that it is by God’s grace that we are alive and still have the strength to continue with the good work on this earth to the glory of God Almighty.

Elucidating the progress of the companies under him, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong said “our companies in the year 2012 achieved a lot of feat through the beefing up of our trucks and strengthening of the subsidiaries with the needed human resource.”

According to him, the companies continue to grow each passing day as result of the public private partnership venture which is currently propelling the fortune of the companies. “Currently, we are managing 250,000 staff under the various modules and programmes,” he explained.

He said Zoomlion and JOSPONG GROUP of Companies have established a tertiary institution for sanitation and waste management in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

The group, according to him, is training the youth in employable skills to be more useful to society by providing them with the required logistics that would enable them set up their own businesses.

Zoomlion and its sister companies are currently operating in seven other countries apart from Ghana and still counting, according to the information available to The Citizen.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong urged the youth to understand that Ghana is the only country we have hence should not allow themselves to be used by anybody to disturb the peace of this nation even after the elections.

Apostle D.K. Noble Atsu in his ‘word ministration’ advised workers of the various companies under Zoomlion and JOSPONG GROUP to be ready to take up responsibilities as the company grows because JOSPONG GROUP is in the process of accomplishing what it has begun, adding, greater things are yet to come.

On his part, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the government had enjoyed a tremendous working relationship with Zoomlion and JOSPONG GROUP of companies over the years. He said these companies are flourishing today as a result of government’s commitment to making sure that existing companies are given all the necessary support required for sustainability.

He said the government had guaranteed a loan facility of GH?80 million for the construction of a compost plant that is currently operational. This notwithstanding, the government again guaranteed additional $100 million loan facility which facilitated the acquisition of a large number of trucks to fast track the collection and management of waste in the Country.
