Jomoro MP starts familiarisation tour to acquaint with problems

Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. Paul Essien popularly known as 'Jomoro David' has commenced a familiarisation tour of towns and villages within the area to explain the current government programs and his programs to the chiefs and people that are geared towards the accelerated development of the area.

The tour sought to identify problems confronting the people as well as initiate strategies to solve them by bringing central governance to the doorstep of the people in various constituencies he visited.

The problems facing these communities include; poor roads network, toilet facilities, electricity, inadequate teachers, portable water, health facility and the bad state of some school buildings.

Some of the communities visited so far include; Tweako No.1, Navorongo, Kojo Liberia Village 2, Nuba, Tikobo No.1, Bonyere and Nzulezo.

Addressing chiefs and people of Nzulezo, the tourist community in a mini durbar, Hon. Paul Essien expressed a great deal of gratitude on behalf of the President, Akufo-Addo, and entire NPP to the community for their immense support during the 2016 general elections which brought the party into power.

He, however, urged the chiefs and people of the area to come together to help the government in all spheres of endeavours for developmental goals as the government cannot do it alone.

The MP who is also the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs seized the occasion to appeal to the residents to nurture peace and at all circumstances to create a peaceful atmosphere.
He admonished the people to be law-abiding.

Earlier on, the MP visited the Nzulezo Basic School to acquaint himself with problems face facing them and the Chief of the community revealed that the school doesn't have enough teachers to impart knowledge into the children.
The MP bemoaned how a well known tourist community like Nzulezo has been neglected by his predecessors when it comes to social amenities.
The MP therefore immediately requested three NaBCO teachers to be posted to the school.

He used the opportunity to chat with the school children and advised them to take their studies seriously and respect their parents.
He also urged the parents to invest more in their children's education and avoid buying expensive clothing.
The Deputy Chieftaincy Minister donated streetlight bulbs to the community to replace the old ones and bright the area and also beef up security during the night.

He also donated some bags rice and frytol oils to the entire community to be using as their Christmas gift.
He pledged to visit the community on time and support them to build a new school building for the children.

The community requested for nurses to be posted at their health facility and the MP accepted their request and promised to liaise with the Municipal Health Directorate to post some nurses to the facility.

Hon. Paul Essien donated six knapsack spraying machines worth 15,000 Ghana Cedis to cocoa farmers in these cocoa growing communities.

Making the donation at Tweako No.1, Hon. Paul Essien said his donation was in the fulfilment of his promise to support farming in the constituency with the needed financial strength and logistics to improve their standard of living.
He described the cocoa sector as the backbone of the economy and enumerated its tremendous contribution towards infrastructural development of the country.

He further stressed government’s initiative of “Planting for Food and Jobs” which is creating employment for the youth and the re-introduction of the pollination and gang spraying program, assuring the farmers of equal benefits towards boosting cocoa production.

He urged farmers to observe all the requisite practices to enable them reap the benefits of their work to improve their livelihoods.

The MP advised the beneficiary communities to manage the machines properly and “adopt good cultural practices such as periodical maintenance of these machines”.

He also advised the farmers to always get their chemicals from the approved source and agents so as not to use the wrong chemicals which can destroy their cocoa seedlings.

He seized the opportunity and pledged to construct a CHP compound for these communities to provide good healthcare delivery for the residents.
He donated 50 bags of cement to the communities to be used for the foundation of the building.

He also called on them to rally behind President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government to develop the country.

"I call on you to rally behind President Akufo-Addo because through the help of President Akufo-Addo, some youth of Jomoro have been engaged as Cocoa Pollinators and at least these people their living standards have changed and more opportunities are underway", he emphasized.
Some of the farmers who spoke to the media after the donation, they thanked the MP for the kind gesture and asked for more of such assistance to live meaningful lives.

The occasion also offered the farmers an opportunity to seek professional advice from agricultural extension agents.
The MP was accompanied by the Jomoro Municipal Agricultural Officer, some extension officers, some NPP Executive Members who was led by its Chairman, Mr. Simon Amoah, the media among others.
