Jirapa District spends over GH¢10,000 on doctors

Jirapa (UWR), Aug. 21, GNA - The Jirapa District Assembly, has from January to July this year spent over GH¢10,000 on motivational allowances for both residents and Cuban doctors serving in the District.

A monthly motivational allowances of GH¢500 and GH¢140 were paid to a resident doctor and a Cuban doctor serving in the District respectively.

Mr Bernard K. Puozuing, Jirapa District Chief Executive (DCE), made this known during the second ordinary meeting of the Jirapa District Assembly on Wednesday at Jirapa in the Upper West Region.

The DCE noted that the comfort of dedicated doctors was one of the greatest priorities of the District Assembly and it would therefore continue to motivate them to continue to give off their best to improve on the health of the people.

He said the Assembly in collaboration with the District Health Management Team (DHMT), was putting in extra effort to improve on the infrastructure and health service delivery in the District.

Mr Puozuing said health facilities like the Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) as well as clinics had been constructed and refurbished in the very remote areas of the District with the ultimate aim of bringing health service delivery to the door steps of the people.

He said, in order to improve on the strength of health professionals in the District, the Assembly was also sponsoring both student nurses and doctors in many of the health training institutions in the country.

He commended UNICEF and the World Food Programme for donating food relief to the Assembly for the support of malnourished children and lactating mothers and urged other stakeholders to also come out and support.

The DCE announced that the Assembly had received an amount of GH¢186,440.39 as its second quarter allocation of the District Assembly's Common Fund.

He pointed out that this had enabled the Assembly to pay off substantial amounts of inherited bills and costs of projects that were currently being carried out in the District.

Mr Puozuing further announced that an amount of GH¢5,387.50 was realized by the two tractors of the Assembly during the ploughing season while the tipper truck also raked in over GH¢6,500.00.
