Jema Krontihene destooled over sale of lands

Krontihene of Jema, Nana Gyan Boahen Krontihene of Jema, Nana Gyan Boahen

The Abusuapanin of the Krontire Division of Jema in the Kintampo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Kwaku Sarpong has announced that he has destooled the Krontihene of Jema, Nana Gyan Boahen.

The charges he leveled against the Krontihene included, random sale of lands, fighting in public and disrespect to the stool elders.

Speaking to newsmen at Jema, Nana Sarpong said as the Abusuapanin of the Krontire Division of Jema, he has the sole responsibility to enstool and destool the Krontihene if it is found that he is misbehaving and bringing the name of the stool into disrepute.

He said after selling all the lands at Jema, the Krontihene had moved to Nante another town which lies about two kilometers away from Jema and sold several acres of lands there without accounting to anyone.

Nana Sarpong stressed that when the Krontihene was asked to assist with some money accrued from the land sales to continue with the palace project the Krontire Division had started, he refused and rather used the money to buy two luxurious cars.

According to Nana Sarpong what was most disturbing was the Krontihene’s behavior in public. He cited many instances where the Krontihene fought in public and even engaged in fisticuffs with some people during the funeral of one Adwoa Ameyaa, a royal of the Krontire Division.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted Nana Gyan Boahen to hear his side of the story, he said as the Krontihene of Jema, the land located at Nante is vested in him and he has the right to sell them. He said Nana Sarpong, the Abusuapanin is a pastor and the stool which he, Nana Gyan occupies belongs to a deity so he saw no reason why the Abusuapanin should have interest in a stool land that belongs to a deity. He also denied ever fighting in public.

In a related case, farmers at Nante, whose lands had been sold by the Krontihene, petitioned the Queenmother of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Nana Dudaa Kani to intercede and stop the Krontihene and one Kwame Amponsah who fronts for the Krontihene from getting near their lands. In the said petition, the farmers said farming is the mainstay of the people of Nante and as such will not sit unconcerned for the Krontihene to sell their lands.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the leader of the farmers, Adu Abass William said even tenant farmers at Nante were leaving in droves to other areas since Krontihene had sold their lands. He warned that if nothing is done and the Krontihene continues with his activities, the farmers will have no choice but to take the law into their hands and deal with him and anyone who will buy any land from him.
