Jang Primary school lacks furniture - Head teacher

Jang (U/W), Dec. 3, GNA - School children at Jang Local Authority Primary in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region are sitting on the floor to have their lessons due to the lack of furniture. This challenge is discouraging other children of school going age in the community from enrolling in the school and also making teaching and learning more difficult for the teachers.

Mr. J.S Adams, head teacher of the school, told Mr. Abu Kansangbata, District Chief Executive of Nadowli at Jang during a familiarisation tour. He said the six-unit class room block built for the school had no furniture, thereby compelling the 450 children to lie on their stomachs to write.

Mr. Adams said apart from the furniture problem, the school lacked qualified teachers to handle the children.

There were also no teaching syllabus for the teachers, a situation he said was impacting negative on teaching and learning. Mr. Kansangabata commended the teachers for their dedication and hard work even though they were working under challenging conditions. He promised that the district assembly would collaborate with the District Education Office to provide the school with furniture to help promote quality teaching and learning.
