Involve local people in the award of contracts

Kyem (Ash) Aug 25, GNA - Nana Akwasi Kankam, Kontihene of Kyem, in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, has appealed to the Government to involve local communities in the award of contracts for development projects of which they are the direct beneficiaries. This, he said, was necessary to ensure quality delivery through effective monitoring and supervision by the beneficiaries.

He said the situation where the communities are kept in the dark when jobs are being awarded to contractors makes it difficult to draw attention to flaws in project implementation. Nana Kankam, made the appeal when Mr. Mohammed Boakye Agyemang, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), paid a working visit to Kyem.

The chief also complained that the community had been denied its fair share of development projects by the Municipal Assembly. The result, he said, was the lack of social amenities. "The people for instance, are forced to share their source of drinking water, a stream, with cows and other animals. Nana Kankam again complained about the increasing lawlessness in the area and called for the establishment of a police station to restore some level of sanity. Mr Agyemang promised to do all he could to make more comfortable for the people. 25 Aug. 09
