Involve DCE contestants in decisions - DCE's urged

Winneba (C/R), July 2, GNA - Metropolitan, Municipal and District chief executives have been advised to involve those who contested for the position with them in their activities. Professor Samuel .M. Quartey, Central Regional Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who gave the advice said that would offer such peoples the opportunity to put their knowledge and expertise at the disposal of the country.

Prof. Quartey, who is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, gave the advice at a dinner organised by Mr Kofi Mintah, Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the NDC for some party members at Winneba.

The dinner was to offer people, who contested for the position of the Municipal chief executives in the Effutu Municipality, the chance to voice out their grievances for redress. Prof. Quartey also urged chief executives to involve the youth in the organisation of the party saying "since their exuberances must be fully tapped for the benefit of the party and their communities." Mr Kow Anyanful, acting Central Regional Secretary of the NDC expressed concern about the rampant changes of chief executives in the municipality and said it did not augur well for development of the area. He said with the ceding of Awutu and Senya to form a new district, the Effutu Municipality was now faced with limited resources. He, therefore, appealed to party supporters to be calm and assist in explaining the financial position of the assembly to the people. Mr Eric Amankwah, a former constituency secretary, appealed to the contestants to bury their differences and moved together to support the municipal chief executives to build a formidable party in the area. He urged the MCE to be transparent in his administration. Mr Mintah urged the MCE and party leadership to see consensus building as an important activity to ensure a successful tenure. He said the party should not wash its dirty linen in public since it would give its detractors the chance to score political points. Nii Ephraim, Municipal Chief Executive, expressed gratitude to Mr Mintah for creating the platform for his contestants to voice out their feelings. He assured them of his cooperation in the discharge of his duties.
