Mr George Kumi, an Independent Parliamentary candidate in the Sunyani East Constituency, has constructed two mechanised boreholes to improve water supply at Fawkrom and Koo-Barnie communities in the Sunyani Municipality.

Mr Kumi, who is a former Ambassador to Libya and a High Commissioner to Nigeria, came to the aid of residents in the predominantly farming communities who depended on water from streams for domestic use.

He expressed worry that many rural communities in the Municipality were deprived of basic amenities and other necessities of life.

Mr Kumi said his two contenders, Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio the Municipal Chief Executive, have been given the opportunity to serve, but have failed the constituency.

He said the Municipality was still lagging behind in the provision of socio-economic infrastructure, as people in some deprived communities continue to struggle for water while others lacked teaching and learning materials.

Mr Kumi urged the electorate to vote for him in the coming elections for rapid socio-economic development.

Nana Solomon Oblitey Commey, the Chief of Fawkrom, thanked the benefactor for the gesture, noting that the borehole would help minimise the surge in water borne diseases in the two communities.

Mr Kumi later presented two packets of roofing sheets each to the Kurasua Number one and Kyeremogya communities in support of a toilet project.
