Inculcate good sanitation practices in children - MCE

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, has called on Ghanaians to inculcate good moral values and proper sanitation practices in their children.

He said by so doing they would help transform society and make it a better place.

Mr Baidoo, who made the call at the 25th anniversary of the Ashaiman Senior High School Old Students Homecoming, said everybody must join hands with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to undertake the monthly clean-up exercise.

He said any school in Ashaiman with bad sanitary conditions, which falls below the expected standard would be sanctioned.

He said the Assembly would collaborate with the various courts in the municipality to enforce the bye-laws and prosecute sanitation cases to help protect the environment.

Mr Baidoo said the government would not relent on its avowed promise to ensure the provision of quality and affordable education for the people, and that, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly would continue to provide the needed infrastructure to improve teaching and learning.

He said the Assembly would complement the efforts of the Board of Directors of the Ashaiman Senior High School and the Parent-Teacher Association to provide the necessary infrastructure for the school.

“The contractor on the school library edifice has come back to site to complete the remaining works whilst the Assembly is aware of the state of the Assembly Hall project under construction by GETFund,” Mr Baidoo said.

Mrs Cynthia Obuo Nti, Headmistress of the Ashaiman Senior High School, said in 1990, the school started with 30 students and two teachers but now it has a population of 1,250 students.

She said the school is not only offering vocational programmes but is also offering the six core programmes in the Senior High Schools, such as home economics, visual arts, agricultural science, general science, business and general arts.

Mrs Obuo Nti said the school is also facing challenges like; space for expansion, places of convenience, furnishing of the canteen, refurbishment of classrooms, school bus and a pickup for administration work and the completion of a multipurpose science laboratory, started by the Parent-Teacher Association.
