Increasing immorality caused by irresponsible attitude of women

Kumasi, Oct. 28, GNA - Mrs Theodosia Jackson, National President of the Women's Wing of the Ghana Conference of Evangelism (GHACOE), has attributed the rising causes of immorality among the youth such as teenage pregnancies, indiscipline, armed robbery among others to the irresponsible attitude of some women.

She appealed to women to owe it as their duty to nurture their children to live good moral lives so as to enable them to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country. Mrs Jackson was speaking on the topic: "Parental Challenges of a Christian Woman in the 21st Century", at a seminar jointly organized by the Ashanti Regional Students Union and Women's Ministries of the Assemblies of God Church in Kumasi on Friday.

The seminar attended by over 400 women formed part of activities marking the 25th anniversary celebration of the Students Union of the church.

She expressed regret that most women spent a lot of money on material things and funerals at the expense of their children's education and urged them to make education of their children especially the girl-child as their top priority.

Mrs Jackson, who is the headmistress of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Junior Secondary School, advised women to provide their wards' basic needs at school to enhance their effective learning.

She stressed the need for them to support their husbands in caring for their children instead of putting all the responsibilities on them. The Reverend (Mrs) Gladys Frimpong-Manso, Regional President of the Women's Ministries of the church, who presided, advised women to ensure that their children utilized their time profitably rather than viewing television and video shows.

Other planned activities for the celebration include lectures, evangelism, excursion and clean-up exercises.
