Imam appeals to NAGRAT to return to classrooms

Akyem Oda (E/R), Oct. 23, GNA - The Akyem Oda District Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdallah Alhassan on Monday appealed to members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), currently on strike to return to the classrooms so as not to disrupt the academic calendar. He also appealed to the government, 93as a matter of urgency,=94 to speed up negotiations with both NAGRAT and the Ghana Associations of Teachers (GNAT) to ensure that the academic future of students was not jeopardised.

Alhaji Alhassan made the call when he addressed Muslims at Akyem Oda on the occasion of "Eid-Ul Fitr.

He charged Muslims to remain united and to promote peace among themselves at all times as prerequisite for development of their communities.

He advised them to guard against all acts that would cast a slur on the reputation of the Islamic Religion.

The Imam appealed to well-to-do among them to assist the needy and orphans in their midst to make life meaningful to them.

He expressed worry about the situation when mosques were filled to capacity during Ramadan period but became half full after the occasion and urged Muslims to be committed to the religion.

The district Imam prayed for President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and for peace and tranquillity in society. 23 Oct 06
