A 21-year-old illegal miner, Samwin Larbi, has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawkaw District Court for the alleged murder of 52-year-old Akua Obiri at Kwahu Behenase, in the Eastern Region.
Larbi is scheduled to reappear before the court on November 3, 2025.
According to an adomonline.com report on October 6, 2025, the murder case has created heightened tensions in the community, exacerbated by a dispute between the victim's family and the Nkawkaw Police Command regarding the autopsy fee.
Family rejects body of murder victim over GH¢12,000 autopsy fee
The victim's family claims they were informed the autopsy would cost GH¢12,000, an amount they say they cannot afford, offering GH¢2,000 instead.
However, Chief Superintendent Victor Kwakye, the Nkawkaw District Police Commander, has denied that the police specified any fee.
He clarified that the police only informed the family about the mandatory requirement of an autopsy for the case.
