Huni Valley MP inaugurates projects

Wassa Kwawu (W/R), July 11, GNA - Mr Albert Kwaku Obbin, Member of Parliament for Prestea /Huni-Valley, has said HIPC was not a failure and there was evidence that the initiative was benefiting many communities. He said this when he inaugurated some HIPC (Highly Indebted Poor Countries) fund projects at separate ceremonies in his constituency.

The projects were two hand-dug wells fitted with pumps valued at 14.5 million cedis each at Wassa Kwawu and Adofo Camp, 16-pit aqua privy toilets valued at 75 million cedis each at Patapom and Atwereboanda. He also inspected progress of work on a 157-million-cedi block of three classrooms the Ministry of Education was financing at Bompieso.

Mr Obbin said the Wassa West District was allocated one billion cedis from the HIPC fund and that 30 communities had been provided with hand-dug wells fitted with pumps in addition to schools and places of convenience.

Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa, West District Chief Executive, observed that farmers had destroyed most of the forest and water bodies through bad agricultural practices.
