Hospital staff educated on human relations, efficiency

Tema, Nov. 6, GNA - Nii Dortey Abotsi III, Presiding Member of the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) on Wednesday called on nurses to put in their best at work to help save lives.

He said nurses are the first point of call at the hospitals, therefore, the survival or death of patients in critical conditions would depend on the speedy or sluggish attention they received from the nurse.

He said the quality of services rendered by nurses would reflect on the particular institution and the Ghana Health Service, as a whole. It is therefore, important that nurses are guided by their professional ethics and not assume a patient in critical condition to be dead, but rather expedite the routine processing of the sick person to the immediate attention of the doctor.

Nii Abotsi was closing a three-day seminar on "Marketing/Customer Care in the Health Industry," which was organised by the management of Narh-Bitah hospital, a private hospital at Tema for its senior staff, mostly nurses, and paramedics.

The Presiding Member entreated the participants to let the knowledge acquired reflect in their services to help improve upon their efficiency.

Mr Nathaniel Addy, Lecturer/Marketing Consultant of the School of Administration at the University of Ghana, Legon, called on management staff in the health sector to invest in refresher courses for their staff to improve their knowledge and efficiency to achieve quality health care.

He noted that effective supervision, avoidance of waste, punctuality, and respect for each other's views, would greatly enhance quality of service.
